AVNER DORMAN ANNOUNCES EXCITING 2024-2025 SEASON WITH WORLD PREMIERES AND INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCES
Avner Dorman writes music of intricate craftsmanship and rigorous technique, expressed with a soulful and singular voice. A native of Israel now living in the United States, Dorman draws on various cultural and historical influences in composing, resulting in music that affects an emotional impact while exploring new territories. The upcoming 2024-2025 season is set to be an exciting journey with Dorman's works being performed at prestigious venues and festivals, including "Child's Play" at the renowned Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, which commissioned the piece.
World Premieres and Highlights:
Concerto for Two Violins and Strings: This highly anticipated world premiere will be performed by the legendary Gil Shaham and Adele Anthony, alongside the Santa Barbara Symphony under the baton of Nir Kabaretti in May 2025. The piece will also be featured at the prestigious Aspen Music Festival in July.
"In Flux" - A Concerto for Percussion Trio and Orchestra: Trio Colores and the Braunschweig Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Delyana Lazarova, will debut this new work in January 2025.
Israeli Premiere of "Concerto for Mandolin, Guitar, and Orchestra": Set for September in Jerusalem, this piece will feature Duo Mantar with the Jerusalem Symphony conducted by Omer Wellber.
UK Premiere of "Wahnfried": Avner Dorman's opera will grace the Longborough Festival's stage in early summer 2025, directed by Polly Graham and conducted by Justin Brown, who originally commissioned the piece.
Other Notable Performances:
"Tanyaderas": Conducted by Yoel Levi, the Israeli premiere will be in September 2024 with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, followed by performances in Harrisburg, PA, and Greenwich, CT, with the Greenwich Symphony under Stuart Malina.
West Coast Premiere of "Eternal Rhythm": February 2025 will see Simone Rubino perform with the Monterey Symphony conducted by Jayce Ogren.
"Child's Play": This piece will be performed in Germany as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the International Percussion Festival, highlighting its significance as a commissioned work.
Revival of "Die Kinder des Sultans": Avner Dorman's opera will return for a third run at the Dortmund Opera in February 2025, featuring a collaboration with Theater Bonn and Deutsche Oper am Rhein as part of the Young Operas Rhein-Ruhr series.
Throughout the season, Dorman's acclaimed compositions, such as "Frozen in Time," "Spices, Perfumes, Toxins!" and "Nigunim," will continue to resonate with audiences worldwide. Recent works for saxophone and other instruments will also be prominently featured.
Avner Dorman's music has garnered numerous awards and prizes, including Israel's prestigious Prime Minister's Award for his Ellef Symphony, and international awards from ASCAP, ACUM, and the Asian Composers League. His music is available on Naxos, Deutsche Grammophon, Canary Classics, and other labels. Dorman studied composition with John Corigliano and Josef Bardanashvili, and he holds a doctorate in composition from the Juilliard School. Dorman currently serves as Associate Professor of Music Theory and Composition at the Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College.
